Having campaigned for Obama, being a lifelong loyal Democrat, and having watched Chris Mathews’ Hardball show since it’s inception, (when I was in high school) I thought his race relations special on Dr. King’s birthday would be interesting to say the least. Sadly it was more depressingly revealing of our current condition. The whole premise of the program was an almost 100% exclusive focus on “African American” perspectives of what a terrible racist nation America is and how racist most white people are etc…There was not one person representing a “white”, blue collar, country, or just plain non liberal perspective. Every coin, conflict, and story of strife has at least two sides, (often three) however this would not be apparent to a viewer watching Mr. Mathews’ alleged “dialogue.” Without “Caucasian Representation” it had as much representative credibility as Sarah Palin attempting to burnish her scientific bona fides on global warming. Like any problem worthy of improvement, race relations are a two- way street and not a one- way road sign. Mr. Mathew’s entire premise of the program was a one-sided monologue of the worst conceivable, politically correct prerequisites and proportions. With only a “one-sided PC premise” and without true diversity of opinion or dissent, much less any real “Caucasian Representation,” it was about as conducive to dialogue, reason and true societal progress as a cyanide capsule is to longevity!
I shall try to restrain myself here in listing examples of this one-sided PC cancerous mentality masquerading as “genuine dialogue” seeking improvement. I shall do my best to limit these illustrations but believe me this is ONLY the tip of the iceberg.
Tom Joyner, after being read the now infamous quotation from Senator Reid replied; “Yes it’s true, but he shouldn’t be allowed to say it.” Further adding, “We like watermelon too but don’t offer it to us- that’s racist.” According to Mr. Tom Joyner the First Amendment need not apply to white folks, even when they say things or non maliciously “slip up” now and then with words of truth with which he himself agrees. Does anyone think true social progress and improvement is possible with this intellectually dishonest PC climate of “gotcha games” where white people dare not speak truth? (I say “FIGHT THE POWER!!”)
Another panelist from NYU admitted that many of her kids (far from being racist) voted for Obama precisely because he was black. To which the gentleman from BET proclaimed; “But those white people would have never voted for Sharpton.” IS YOU CRAZY FOOW? What person in their right mind, ethnicity be damned, who with a shred of integrity or intelligence ever would have? Is the BET panelist suggesting that if I go on to kill two people, falsely accuse and slander the police, and deliberately exacerbate racial tensions that he would vote for me if I were to run for office? Does anyone else remember Towana Brawley, Bensonhurst and the Crown Heights riot? Let alone “Rev Al’s” deplorable comments when he gave the eulogy at Gavin Cato’s funeral. Surely I hope no one in their right mind would reward this racist and backwards behavior with the affirmation of a vote. I never heard Mr. Joyner, the BET panelist or even Chris Mathews ever once rebuke Rev Al or Rev Wright’s vitriolic and proudly proclaimed racism or show the slightest bit of concern for those firefighters in New Haven but no one is questioning Tom Joyner’s motives or his “selective amnesia” where matters of race and consistency are concerned.
Mr. Mathews later indicted the entire WW2 generation as “old people” and “:racists who would never vote for a person of color.” One wonders whether or not he is projecting too much of his northern and urban experiences onto everyone else’s families? Both of my grandmothers are eighty-eight years old and they both voted for President Obama. This includes the one who lives in Madison, Georgia. Unlike the lack of duty, self-absorption, and cultural erosion caused by some in Mr. Mathews’ generation, both of my grandfathers served our country bravely, with valor & distinction! One of my grandfathers was strafed several times by Japanese gunners at Midway. Other grandfather was so invaluable that when he tried to enlist in the Army, our govt told him to “stay right where he was and keep doing what he was doing.” Harry Bowden not only ran the Dupont factory which produced many of the tires for our aircraft, but as a chemist he also helped to perfect a special neoprene solution which great improved the quality of our tires for those bombing runs over Dresden.
Unless he thinks Tojo and Hitler possessed a better vision of social justice for America, Mr. Mathews should praise my grandparents’ as the reason we are not all speaking German today! They didn’t risk their lives to keep us free so he could anachronistically paint them as dreadfully racist people. I suspect that were my grandfathers alive today, they would defend Mr. Mathews’ First Amendment rights as Americans; is that not what we’re all about? I must mention however that unlike Mr. Mathews and (sadly) Mr. Oberman, neither of my grandparents ever felt the compulsive need to brown nose anybody, let alone falsely accuse others.
To even the most amateur observer of history the cultural and historic parallels of people falsely accusing others so that no one will falsely accuse them is a ghastly and cyclically repetitive spectacle to behold. During the nastiest days of Joseph McCarthy, one wonders how many lives were ruined by fear and false accusations. Worse still were the red brigades of Chairman Mao’s Cultural Revolution. With thirty seven million people killed, one wonders how many stemmed from people, caused bye a climate of fear, bearing false witness against one another in the hopes of safety. Today in modern PC America how often do people falsely accuse others of racism in the hopes that such recklessly promiscuous slander will grant them immunity from similar allegations?
*Note to my scared white PC Democrats* My buddy who was Charlene Chisholm’s chief of staff agrees with most of my observations on this subject as do many of my black friends more often than not. It doesn’t matter if my friends agree with me or not, what does matter is that I have many trusted friends who respect me for having the courage to make some self- evident but politically incorrect observations.
As Mr. Mathews’ program painfully wore on, he and Mr. Joyner proceeded to paint, to try to tar and feather people as racist who were critical of President Obama. Not only is this wrong and intellectually dishonest, but any amateur psychologist will tell you this mentality could have a reverse psychological and catastrophic effect on my Democrats. Part of the reason Obama won (and both of my 88 yr old grandmothers chose to vote for him) was that he essentially told White America, “its ok it doesn’t make you a racist if you don’t vote for me. I believe in the fairness and decency of the American people” Mathews, Oberman, Joyner et al etc..Would sadly stand this respect for free choice and diversity of thought on its head. This is a big part of what’s driving people to Glenn Beck and Fox News. People do not deserve to be painted as racist if they do not agree with my President on Habeas Corpus rights for terrorists, Second Amendment, health care or affirmative action.(I don’t agree with him on Habeus Corpus or affirmative action myself and I campaigned for him in three feet of Jan NH snow) As if things couldn’t get any worse, the only non-black panelist on the program then proceeded to state that white people were racist if they did not support a carte blanche amnesty for all illegal aliens. It is precisely this condescending and hypocritically unfair mentality which is serving as an unintended catalyst to the rise of the Republican Party. What loyal Democrat would knowingly want to push people to Glenn Beck and the “wing-nuts” of “Notorious GOP?” Can you say Ricci Massachusetts?
On election night, Keith Obermann repeatedly tried to get Howard Fineman to say that Scott Brown was race baiting to whites because he used his pickup truck in all his commercials. Are you EXPLETIVing kidding me? You wonder why we lost Keith? Perhaps Coakley’s condescension to Catholics, blue collar Americans and all Boston Red Sox fans MIGHT have played a role? Maybe it was her calling Curt Schilling was a Yankees fan? Or her going on vacation to the Caribbean for two weeks while Scott Brown was outside shaking hands at Fenway Park and damn near every drive through McDonald’s window he could find. During her concession speech Coakley stated that “while some might be disappointed in me, there are two wonderful dogs waiting for me at home who will be very happy that I lost.” I’m sure that thirty-eight million Americans with no health insurance would feel relieved to learn that her dogs will no longer be suffering from “separation anxiety.”
